Jamshedpur, Feb. 8: Former East Singhbhum superintendent of police Ajay Kumar will arrive in the city on Monday to feel the pulse of the electorate.
Vying for a parliamentary ticket from Jamshedpur constituency, Kumar has taken up the issue of displacement at Railway Colony in Bagbera to kickstart his campaign. At present, he is the chief executive at Max Neeman International, New Delhi.
The former police superintendent confirmed his decision to enter the poll fray on a UPA ticket and not as an independent candidate.
Ruling out rumours that he might contest on a BJP ticket from the Jamshedpur constituency, Kumar said: “I am not in the race for the NDA. I have ideological differences. If I contest the elections, it will be on a ticket from any of the UPA constituents.”
Kumar said the issue of representing the party would come after the UPA takes a final decision on who would contest from this seat. The Jamshedpur seat is, at present, represented by Suman Mahto, a JMM candidate.
During his three-year tenure as the superintendent of police, Kumar earned the title of “super cop”.
Kumar is now looking forward to ride his way to Parliament on popularity vote from the city.
“I have a house in Sonari and have been allotted a plot at Neildih Enclave. Settling down here, in this wonderful city, is part of my future plan. However, to get a UPA ticket for the upcoming elections is my priority,” said Kumar.
Talking about the displacement of people, Kumar said more than 600 people had been displaced in Bagbera because of the expansion and modernisation plan of the Indian Railways.
“No one in the city spared a thought for these people. The administration should have made alternative arrangements before evicting them. I will meet the displaced people and decide on the future course of action,” the chief executive said.
