Jamshedpur, Sept. 21: While all their friends were busy playing truants, these five students developed the best gift they could give to their school.
Kushal Agarwal, Prateek Saxena and Aman Babbar — all Class VIII students accompanied by Ankit Kumar of Class VI and Ankit Jindal of Class XII gave Motilal Nehru Public School its first official website.
The portal www.mnps.in was launched during a gala event at the school today.
“The fact that it’s these students who have designed this website makes it so very special. The students have done a good job and have spent days in making this dream a reality,” said Anshu Tiwari, the school principal.
Developed in a record time of only one week, the students were helped by one teacher, but the entire idea of presenting the portal was completely theirs.
One of the best features was that the visitors could download the school admission form from the portal.
“This year the school completes 15 years and we are also beginning our nursery classes. Thus we decided to launch the online admission system so that it becomes convenient for parents,” added Tiwari.
Though the school has given applicants the option of downloading the school form, for the time being online submission would not be available as the system needs to be developed further.
“Unlike the regular forms, the online admission forms do not have a serial number. But that would be assigned to the applicants once they submit the forms,” said Tiwari.
Apart from the online forms, students can also get complete information about the school, including the courses offered, number of teachers and their qualification, latest news and achievements. A picture gallery is uploaded on the website where one could get glimpses of life on the campus.
“Creating the website was a lot of fun. We have tried to incorporate all the relevant information about the school, its history and its achievements,” said Ankit Jindal, the senior-most member in the students’ team.
An interesting feature on the website are the links dedicated to students, teachers and parents. Aptly titled students’ corner, school corner and parents’ corner, these pages deal with all information relevant to each of the stakeholders.
The visitors can also post their opinion on the portal. A special link has also been provided for business concerns to post their tenders or any other queries pertaining to developmental activities in the school.
