Ranchi’s Gurunanak Higher Secondary School has resorted to the age-old question answer way to sharpen the minds of its students.

The CBSE-affiliated cradle, in the new academic session, has introduced Quest-2012, a programme that tests the awareness of students in various fields like moral values, life skills, mathematics and general knowledge.

Under the new programme, the school comes up with a bunch of question, including some multiple choice ones, on various issues for students of Class VI to XII. The teachers select one class every week, the students of which are compulsorily required to attempt all the questions set and drop their answers in a box. The teachers then go through all the answer scripts, shortlisting students who score the maximum. These names are then put in for a draw, with the management every week feting one lucky winner with books.

Speaking to The Telegraph on Thursday, principal of the cradle Manohar Lal said that they mooted the idea to help students prepare for various competitive examinations.

“The idea was to give the students a platform to stay abreast with all the changes taking place in the world and help them crack competitive examinations. The students need to be trained right from the start,” Lal said.

He added that the students so far had responded exceptionally well to the new programme and took the quiz enthusiastically every week.

“This Monday we tested the students of Class VI,” he said.

Senior teachers on a “rotation basis” set the questions for the quiz each week, with the school keeping a record of all the prize winners.
