Cadets of Kiriburu-based SAIL's Eklavya Archery Academy can look forward to a month-long training stint in Jamshedpur in the coming monsoon.
Heavy rain is common in Kiriburu. It is impossible to hold training sessions in these conditions, SAIL's assistant general manager (CSR) Navin Kumar saidover phone from Kiriburu.
"I have spoken to the Tata Steel sports department about letting us use the archery grounds at JRD Tata Sports Complex this monsoon. We have plans to send our cadets in July and train them till mid-August. We don't want our cadets to miss the daily stints," Kumar added.
According to Kumar, Jamshedpur was the best place for training in the monsoon as it was not very far from Kiriburu in West Singhbhum, about 150 km away.
Moreover, it rains heavily in Kiriburu in July and August, Kumar said, adding he was awaiting a confirmation from Tata Steel sports department head Charles Borromeo.
The SAIL cradle is sending trainees in the monsoon after a gap of two years. The cadets last visited Army Sports Institute in Pune in 2010 for training during monsoons.
"Actually, we did have the full strength of trainees with us this time. For the last two years, some were busy at national camps while others in various international competitions. But this year, we have the required strength for holding training sessions," Kumar explained.
The cradle has a strength of 40 but inducts 20-25 boys and girls in the under-14 to under-16 age group.
