Steel city paddlers came up with a stellar show by notching up 14 medals at the 2nd Jharkhand State Ranking Table Tennis Championship that concluded in Ranchi on Sunday.
Jamshedpur players, representing East Singhbhum at the state meet, won 7 gold and 7 silver medals. West Singhbhum picked up two yellow metals, while capital Ranchi managed just one.
Bokaro, Hazaribag and Garhwa claimed one silver a piece.
While Shruti Mahanand claimed yellow metals in both the women's and youth girls' categories, their city mates Mrinmay Pradhan and Chandni Kumari topped the junior boys' and girls' sections, respectively.
Jamshedpur's Archita Dey wasn't left behind as she picked up a gold medal in the sub-junior eves', while Vandan Tyagi excelled in the cadet boys' section. Disha Narang added one more gold to the city's kitty by topping the cadet girls' section.
The silvers were grabbed by Chandni (women and youth), Mrinmay (youth), Archita (junior and cadet girls), Disha Narang (sub-junior girls), Astitva Dev (cadet boys).
West Singhbhum's Shivaji Roy bagged gold medals in the mens' and youth sections, while Ranchi paddler Dinesh Selav excelled in the sub-junior boys' section.
Bokaro's Neeraj Kumar (mens), Hazaribag's Kumar Shresth (junior boys) and Garwa's Vivek Dubey (sub-junior boys) picked up silvers.
Football for veterans
Seven outfits have confirmed entries for a football tournament to be organised by Jamshedpur Veteran Sports Club (JVSC) at Agrico ground on October 15.
The teams that have confirmed participation include Krida Bharti Star, Krida Bharti Hero, SKMC, Park India, Tudu Brothers, JVSC and a one comprising Morning Walkers.
Qualified referees from Jamshedpur Sporting Association will be officiating in the matches.
