Jamshedpur: Railway passengers may soon be able to book an Ola cab from Tatanagar without hassles.

Although the app-based service was introduced in the steel city in 2016, calling a cab to the station during peak hours has always been tough owing to harassment over parking fee. So, Chakradharpur railway division plans to have a dedicated fleet to save passengers from fleecing parking agencies and also rogue autos.

"We have initiated talks with Ola. The taxi aggregator has agreed to introduce a dedicated service from Tatanagar. We will soon work out modalities and ensure the app cab fleet is available at the station in a month or so," said Bhaskar, senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur.

Bhaskar added that a dedicated parking area would be provided to Ola for which an inspection was on the cards.

Tatanagar, one of the most busiest stations under this division of South Eastern Railway, witnesses a daily footfall of over 50,000 passengers.

A source in Tatanagar's commercial wing said an MoU would be signed with the app cab operator initially for 8-10 vehicles. "The number will be increased depending on passenger response," he added.

Station director H.K. Balmuchu observed that the move would bring great relief to such passengers whose preferred mode of transportation was app cabs.

"Introducing the service from here will ensure transparency in fares. Auto drivers often fleece passengers, especially those arriving at night. The practice of overcharging parking fee can also be contained," he said.

Passengers couldn't be happier. "I always travel Ola when in New Delhi for work. I am sure many other passengers will want the service, which is high on both convenience and comfort," said Partho Haldar, a software professional and resident of Telco.
