He was a leading light of the Jharkhand statehood movement. And, this Statehood Day, Jharkhand will honour his memory with a fitting tribute.
State higher and technical education director Abu Imran on Sunday said the foundation stone of Vinod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University will be laid during the state foundation day celebrations on November 15 this year.
The university in Dhanbad, named after the statehood leader who had his origins here, is likely to become operational from next year.
Imran revealed this while speaking at PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad which felicitated the 2010 batch IAS officer, also from Dhanbad, for helping the college get a fund of Rs 17.80 crore under the premier college plan.
Imran, at in his hometown for Bakri Id, said, 'The building of the new varsity will come up on 22.85 acres identified at Bhelatand mouza and 190 teaching and non-teaching posts have been identified.'
The announcement for the new varsity was made by chief minister Raghubar Das on March 14, 2016, in the state Assembly while answering a query by Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha.
Elaborating on the facilities at the upcoming varsity, Imran, an alumnus of Delhi Public School, Dhanbad, said as the town was in a disaster-prone area, he had suggested setting up a disaster management department along with other regular courses.
State higher and technical education department secretary Ajay Kumar Singh during a meeting with Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha on August 24 said the new varsity would have 21 departments and a 10-storey building with staff quarters.
'The state higher and technical education department has decided to develop 11 colleges into premier ones with with top-notch facilities and PK Roy Memorial College is one of them. The college will be provided with a fund of Rs 17.80 crore to develop a seven-storey building with 55 classrooms and an indoor stadium,' Imran said.
PK Roy Memorial College principal S.K.L. Das thanked Imran and said they would submit another proposal for a building to house staff quarters, labs and other facilities.
