Jharkhand State Handball Association (JSHA) will host the National Senior Men's Handball Championship in 2017 after the efficient conduct of 32nd sub-junior boys' meet, which concluded on Sunday.
It missed the chance this year as Handball Federation of India had already allotted the event to another state.
"We have initiated talks with the Handball Federation of India, which has given positive signals to host the event in Jamshedpur," said JSHA secretary Khurshid Khan.
He added the steel city had adequate facilities for hosting the senior nationals event and the 32nd Sub-junior Boys' National Handball Championship had proved it. "Senior functionaries of the handball federation appreciated us for the efficient conduct of the sub-junior meet," said Khan, who is also the vice-chairman of Handball Federation of India's technical panel.
The sub-junior championship in Jamshedpur was by and large hassle-free though secretary general of the federation Anandeshwar Pandey changed the format last minute. Pandey's diktat to include the pre-quarter final received criticism from participating teams, especially Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir who crashed out of the meet even after qualifying for the quarter-final.
Jharkhand finished runner-up, losing to Sports Authority of India (Gujarat) 30-37 at the summit clash held at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday. It was a hugely improved show from Jharkhand which stood fifth at the previous editionOriginal

It was an hugely improved show from the Jharkhand who stood fifth at the previous edition of the nationals held in Chennai  last year.

The state association organised a month-long training preparatory camp  in lead-up to the sub-junior meet. This helped the boys to stay together as a united bunch. “The boys co-ordinated well with each other during the camp. This showed in their performance at the nationals, said Khan.
