The Footvolley Association of India has selected Jamshedur-based Ram Kumar Upadhyay in the 4-member Indian team for the Asian Championship to be held in Thailand from May 12 to 15.
The 34-year-old Upadhyay, a police constable posted in the steel city, is the lone representative from Jharkhand. He left for Chandigarh on Wednesday to attend the national camp, which kicks-off on Thursday.
"It's a opportunity for me to don the national jersey in an international event. It's a big break," Upadhyay said.
Footvolley is a sport which combines aspects of beach volleyball and football (also known as soccer in some English-speaking countries).
Footvolley is still to get a solid footing in Jharkhand even though a state outfit exists here.
The game is going to be demonstrated at the upcoming Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
