Jamshedpur, Feb. 11: Steel city special shuttler Prashant Kumar Sinha will represent Jharkhand in 17th national badminton championship for the challenged, to be held in Hyderabad on February 26 and 27.
The 33-year-old player, who suffers from cerebral palsy and deformity of bones, received an invitation by Badminton Sports Association of India for Challenged yesterday.
Expressing happiness, Sinha promised to bag a medal for Jharkhand. "I am working hard for the national meet and will definitely win a medal this time too," he said.
He 7has so far won seven gold medals, six silvers and 13 bronzes for undivided Bihar and later Jharkhand since 1998.
He, however, rued that there weren't much government jobs for special players like him.
"The state and central government should create jobs for the physically challenged sportspersons. I have been winning medals for Jharkhand but am yet to get a job. I am happy to don the Jharkhand jersey at the nationals once again but what is the use if I remain jobless," Sinha, a BCom (Part I) student of Karim City College in Jamshedpur, added.
Ramesh Sitaram, president of Badminton Sports Association of India for Challenged said plans were afoot to invite some more shuttlers from Jharkhand as well.
"We thought to invite him as Sinha has played nationals. We might also invite one or two more players from the state," he said stressing on the need to spread awareness about Paralympic Games in the country.
"I think the Paralympic Committee of Jharkhand is not serious about promoting the physically impaired athletes," he added.
