Jamshedpur, Dec. 11: A music and dance extravaganza was presented jointly by Rotary Club of Jamshedpur and Rotaract Club of Jamshedpur Women’s College (JWC) at Tata auditorium this evening.

The function was held to promote Rotary International’s theme for 2002-03 — “Sow the seeds of love”. It was aimed at fulfilling dual objectives of social integration through the highest forms cultural entertainment.

The programme was held in the aid of physically-challenged children of the steel city.

The programme was conceived, scripted and directed by Rotarian Laksmisree Banerjee. President of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur G.R. Nair and other Rotarians were present on the occasion.

After Rotarian Sumathi Muthuraman, wife of Tata Steel managing director B. Muthuraman, inaugurated the event, it was song and dance all the way.

Rotaractors of JWC danced with disabled children to the tunes of popular Hindi numbers.

Beginning with Dil hai chhota sa, chhoti si asha and Ramaiya vatsavaiya, children danced enthusiastically, much to the delight of one and all.

Md Yasim, Jaydev Choudhary, Siyaram Singh — who are all visually impaired — sang some touching songs in chorus.

The participants were drawn from institutions for the disabled, including Asha Kiran, School of Hope, Bal Vihar, Centre for Hearing Impaired, National Association of Blind, Sidheshwar Deaf and Dumb School, Sankalp and SLADS.

Rotaractors of JWC mingled with children and helped them dance.

The children were not in a mood to leave the stage after displaying their dancing talent to the tune of har din jo pyar karega and rimjhim rimjhim, bheegi bheegi rut mey.

The audience was so impressed that it exhorted them to dance again.

Siyaram Singh and Amar Kumar, both visually-impaired, knew the songs by heart and led the chorus in singing Chalte chalte mere geet yaad rakhna and Zindagi har kadam ek nayi jung hai.

They also sang in tandem with the Rotaractors.
