New superintendent of police (SP), city, Chandan Jha on Tuesday assumed office, assuring citizens of better law and order in Jamshedpur.
Jha took charge from SP (rural) Shailendra Kumar Sinha, who had to double up as the city SP so far in the absence of a regular officer, at the latter's office this morning.
'Joining as the city SP here is a great challenge for me. I will do my best to ensure that the crime graph remains at its low here during my tenure,' said Jha, who has come in place of Karthik S.
The former city SP, Karthik S., has moved to Ranchi with his new assignment as the SP (traffic).
Speaking to The Telegraph, Jha, a 2011 batch IPS, said he had worked here during his training under then SSP Akhilesh Kumar Jha in 2013 and had a brief idea about the city. 'I was posted at the Ghatshila police station during the training and used to visit the city frequently. I had been able to make an idea about the city, its cosmopolitan nature and the way of life here,' he added.
Listing his priorities, the new SP said that crime as well traffic control was going to be the major challenges for him.
'I will focus on team work and scientific method for better results. The faster a crime is detected, the sooner the criminal activities will be controlled. The number of vehicles in the city is much greater than the road area. I will have to work hard to ensure a smooth traffic, especially during peak hours, and to minimise mishaps,' said the 29-year-old police officer.
SSP Amol V. Homkar said the arrival of the new SP would boost the police set-up. 'With the new city SP in office, the policing will be more effective,' he said.
