SDSM School for Excellence, DAV Public School (Bistupur), Jamshedpur Pubic School and St Mary's English High School romped into the quarter-finals of the Jamshedpur Old Girls' and Guys' Association (Jogga) Junior Boys' Inter-school Football Championship, which kicked off at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Other outfits who also made it to the last eight stage include Vig English School, Kerala Public School (Kadma), Jusco South Point and Kerala Public School (Gamharia).
While SDSM beat Rajendra Vidyalaya 1-0, DAV (Bistupur) earned a bye against DAV (Patelnagar). JPS beat Baldwin School 2-0 in the other league engagement whereas St Mary's overcame Andhra Association English School 3-2. Vig boys tripped Beldih Church 1-0. In the other matches, KPS (Kadma) defeated Chinmaya Vidyalaya 4-3 while Jusco South Point snatched a 1-0 win over KPS (NML). KPS (Gamharia), on the other hand, got a bye against Motilal Nehru Public School.
Vishal Bobonga's powerful right footer sealed the fate of Rajendra Vidyalaya. The 13-year-old tribal is a promising striker who seldom misses scoring opportunities.
The Class VI student of SDSM school is a swift mover. "I am playing this tournament for the first time. I am learning the ropes from my school sports teacher Sanjay Singh," Vishal said.
The Sidhgora resident is a huge fan of Christiano Ronaldo and dreams emulating the Portugal forward's feats. "I wish to become an international footballer some day. I will work hard for achieving that goal," Vishal signed off.
The event was inaugurated by Tata Steel sports wing and Tata Football Academy administrator Mukul Choudhry in the presence of Jogga president Srimanti Sen and promoter Firoz Khan.

A 100-member athletics teams, comprising boys and girls, in the U-14 and U-17 age category left for Gandhinagar on Tuesday to take part in a national athletics meet.
