Jamshedpur, July 9: Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA) football league - Jharkhand's oldest sporting fixture - will unfold at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur here with a Super Division tie between Aruna Samiti and Jungle Tiger's Football Academy tomorrow.
Sunil Bhaskaran, vice-president (corporate services), Tata Steel, will inaugurate the league in presence of FIFA technical officer Gautam Ghosh, state panel umpire Tahir Baig, ex-Tata Football Academy cadets, footballers and members of the JSA executive panel.
"We are all prepared to conduct the football tournament in an efficient manner. The venues, Gopal Maidan, Armoury ground and JRD Tata Sports Complex, are ready to host the 180-odd matches in the A Division, Super Division and Premier Division," said the secretary of the outfit Avinash Kumar.
A division matches will commence from July 12, whereas the Premier Division matches will begin from July 16.
While Gopal Maidan will host the Super Division matches, A division matches have been slotted in at Armoury ground. Premier Division encounters, on the other hand, will be played at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Keenan Stadium, which also hosts matches, is not available due to laying of new pitches. Thirty nine outfits from the steel city and suburbs will be seen in action during the league that will conclude on August 12.
The over six decades-old JSA league is the most sought-after fixture for local players. It provides a platform for them to showcase their skills and graduate to the state outfit.
The fixture is generally held in May-end or June first week but it got delayed due to absence of a full-fledged JSA executive committee. Elections to the JSA was eventually held on May 21, paving way for the league.
