Jamshedpur, Oct. 29: Over 70 industrial units based in Adityapur plan to apply en masse for ISO-9000 certification.

The prestigious certificate would enable the units to improve the quality of their products and achieve international level. The certification would help the units to explore new market opportunities as well.

Adityapur Industrial Development Authority (Aiada), the nodal agency for development of the industrial area, along with Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA), the largest association of the industrialists of Adityapur, have taken the lead in ensuring that these 70 units get the ISO-9000 certification.

All the units are the ancillaries of the automobile giant, Tata Motors (Telco). For the first time so many units of Adityapur would make attempts to get the coveted certificate en masse.

“Aiada would observe November as the quality month. One of the decisions it has taken is to ensure that these Tata Motors ancillaries are ISO registered,” sources in the nodal agency told The Telegraph.

Aiada managing director Vandana Dadel has given her consent for the programme and held discussions with ASIA over the issue.

“We are getting in touch with the management of these units. The process of certification would start once the details are finalised,” said ASIA vice-president Gurudas Ray.

ASIA officials said the internationally-acclaimed body, Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI), would be entrusted with the auditing work and mandatory procedures in all these units to provide them with ISO certificate.

The process of getting the certificate is a lengthy as the units have to comply with all the norms set by BVQI before getting these certificates.

“If any unit applies individually for the certification, it has to pay a fees of over Rs 1 lakh to BVQI. But in this case, since over 70 units would apply en masse, the organisation would lower its fees and charge about Rs 55,000,” Ray said.

Aiada and ASIA are organising a seminar on November 5 on the importance of ISO certification.
