Seniors rock football meet

Krida Bharti clinched the 5th Veteran Football title by handing out a 1-0 defeat to SSFC-XI in the final played at Agrico grounds in Jamshedpur on Sunday.

Jamshedpur: Krida Bharti clinched the 5th Veteran Football title by handing out a 1-0 defeat to SSFC-XI in the final played at Agrico grounds in Jamshedpur on Sunday.

Damodar Bandra scored the lone winning goal for the champion outfit with a swift right-footer from the left flank.

Earlier, Krida Bharti beat JVSC Masters 3-0 while SSFC XI won 2-0 versus Agrico Health Association to book their berth in the summit clash.

Bandra of Krida Bharti received the top scorer award with four goals to his name while Sudipto Majumdar of SSFC-XI was adjudged the best goalkeeper for four brilliant saves during the tournament hosted by Jamshedpur Veteran Sports Club.

Md Abbas alias Ramzan, an ex-national footballer, gave away the trophies in the presence of club senior vice-president Victor Somaya, secretary Avinash Kumar, ex-FIFA referee Binod Kumar Singh, Jagannath Behera and others.

Ramzan, who was also felicitated at the event, represented Bihar from 1957 to 1963, appearing in Durand Cup, Riders Cup, IFA Shield and Bardoloi Trophy.

A total of 110 veterans in the 40-plus age group participated in the tourney played in the knock-out format. Matches were officiated by Jamshedpur Sporting Association referees Rohit Singh, Fatu Kisku and Dungu Mundiya .

The club also organises athletics, table tennis, badminton, cricket and others.
