Five Ranchi schools have failed to implement dress code for bus drivers and helpers in keeping with a district administration order, an inspection on Wednesday revealed.
Of the five, two cradles had claimed to have adhered to the order in earlier submissions to the administration.
A three-member team, comprising district transport officer (DTO) Nagendra Paswan, traffic DSP Radha Prem Kishore and Motor Vehicle Inspector Ajay Kumar, checked buses of 12 ICSE and CBSE schools passing through Shajadanand Chowk, Harmu Road and Durga Soren Chowk in Lowadih from 2pm-4pm.
They found that drivers and helpers of the buses DAV Public School, Pundag; St Mary's; St Xavier's School, St Thomas and Swarna Rekha Public School were not wearing uniforms (navy blue shirts and trousers for drivers and grey shirts and trousers for helpers). Neither did they carry proper with IDs mentioning their names, numbers and addresses.
In September, St Xavier's and St Thomas had submitted details, including photos of bus drivers and helpers, to show that they had implemented the order.
Asked about this, Father Ajit Xess, principal of St Xavier's, said: "Our drivers were wearing light blue shirts and trousers, whereas the administration had specified the colour navy blue. We will get the uniforms re-stitched."
Seven schools that were found to have implemented the rules are Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali; Tender Heart; Delhi Public School; St Anthony's; Oxford Public School; Loreto Convent; and Lala Lajpat Rai School.
"This checking drive will continue till October 25. Let's see which other schools have failed to honour our diktat. Action will be taken accordingly," said DTO Paswan.
Out of 40 CBSE and ICSE schools in the city, 25 had submitted documents to say they had implemented the order.
