Jamshedpur, March 17: Schools are all set to protect the students from the harsh summer.
Indoor games, assembly inside the classroom and providing lemonade or ?sherbat? for students are some of the steps the schools will take to beat the heat. Schools will make proper arrangements and prepare guidelines for summer so that students will be safe from the heat.
This move was taken after the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) sent a circular to schools to ensure a safe summer for children.
Officials of city-based CBSE affiliated schools said the board has issued strict instructions and has asked to implement it.
In a circular issued on March 10, the CBSE has said that it is important that ?schools and authorities take due notice of the physical and emotional inconvenience caused to students?. In this context, the circular states that ?students should not be allowed to stand for long hours either under the hot sun or in cold weather?.
The CBSE has also suggested that schools arrange for transport to the venue of functions, if any.
?We?ve received guidelines from the board in this regard and are gearing up to make proper arrangements. Summer is testing time for students but we will make sure that they remain healthy during the season,? said Dhanjay Pan, principal of Delhi Public School.
He said the school has ensured that the assembly will be conducted under the shed and moreover, it will cut short the duration of morning assembly. Pan said the school has decided to write to parents to ensure that their wards are sent to schools properly fed.
The principal of Tarapore School, Amy Billimoria, said the school will focus on indoor games during summer so that students do not spend time on the ground.
The SDSM School for Excellence has gone a step further. Starting from tomorrow, the school will organise a nine-day workshop for teachers preparing them for new techniques of education to be implemented from the new session which starts in April.
Raghni Singh, principal of the school, said the workshop will focus on children?s health issues and teachers will be taught how to handle them better in summer.
The Indian Council for Secondary Education (ICSE)-affiliated schools are not far behind. Shubha Madan, principal of ADLS Sunshine School, said apart from fresh water, the school will make proper arrangements for lemonade and ?sherbat? on the campus.
Last year, the school had declared summer holidays a week before other schools. This year, the school will declare summer holidays, in the last week of April.
Sister Flavian, principal of Carmel Junior College, said the school will instruct its teachers to make sure the children follow a healthy routine. ?We will prepare guidelines for our teachers which they will implement on children. Teachers will keep a watch on children whether they are following a healthy diet and hygienic routine,? the principal added.
