Ranchi, Sept.11: Calling for unity between the tribals and the original settlers, sadan leaders today demanded an end to the discrimination meted out to them by the state government and 100 per cent reservation in government jobs in Class III and IV grades.

The sadans, who have been the settlers in Jharkhand region even before the tribals, comprise the backward castes of Sahus, Telis and minorities, and make up more than 73 percent of the total population of the state.

Trying to play down the growing animosity between the original settlers and the tribals, sadan youths today pointed out that in the past five years, tribal leaders, including the two chief ministers, had grossly discriminated against their non-tribal brethren.

“Tribals and outsiders have been given preference in all appointments by the government. While not a single sadan youth has been able to land a job or even bag a contract since the inception of the state,” said Azam Khan and other sadan leaders at a seminar on “State of the sadans”, organised at XISS here.

However, R.P. Sahu, president of Moolvasi Janadhikar Manch, stressed the need for forging a greater unity of all original settlers.

Former chief minister Babulal Marandi, endorsing the demands of the sadans, said the situation in Jharkhand was unlikely to improve under the present dispensation. “Only fresh polls could solve the problems of the sadans,” he added.
