Jamshedpur, March 6: The biography of Russi Mody by Partha Mukherjee and Jyoti Sabharwal — The man who also made steel — is reviving fond memories in the steel city.

“This book has been released at the time when Russi Mody is once again hogging the limelight. Today he is almost back to Jamshedpur, visiting the works on Founders’ Day celebration and that is the reason why a number of people are coming to us to buy this book,” said Mukhtyar Singh, the owner of Wasava Singhs.

Launched in the city book stores about four days ago, Wasava Singhs — the city’s upmarket bookstore — alone has sold over 40 copies in the past few days with a multitude of bulk offers in the pipeline.

“People across the world have heard of him but Russi Mody has a special place in the heart of each person in Jamshedpur. And that is the reason why the book is being liked by all,” said Singh.

Divided clearly into four chapters, the book is a walk down memory lane.

Peppered with anecdotes taken right from the pages of his life history to small interviews by people closely associated with him — this book is a rare delight for all those in love with Tata Steel and the man himself.

In one of the extracts from the book, the author quotes Mody as saying, “I have got no ego. I am also a human being and liable to err.” This was what he had to say when Mody tried to bury the hatchet with Tata Steel way back in 1992.

There is also another instance where his secretary D’ Souza narrates stories like how particular the former CMD was about his timings.

“The book is indeed a journey back to our times,” said S.S. Virdi, a septuagenarian former business contractor with Tata Steel.
