Jharkhand roll ball champ Mukesh Kumar will be among the 24 men and women from across the country, who will sweat it out at the upcoming 3rd Asian Roll Ball Championship.
The meet will be held at Bangkok, Thailand, from November 22 to 24 by International Roll Ball Federation and Asian Roll Ball Federation.
"I feel very proud to represent my country once again. I have really worked hard and will put in my best at the Asian meet," said 19-year-old Mukesh, who had also represented India at the 3rd Roll Ball World Cup in Pune last year.
Jharkhand has other representatives in the team.
Chandeshwar Sahu and Manoj Yadav of Jharkhand Roll Ball Association (JRBA) will accompany the national outfit as coach and official, respectively.
In the run-up to the Bangkok event, a five-day training camp is being organised by JRBA and Tata Steel sports wing at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Bistupur.
Tata Steel sports wing chief Ravi Radha Krishna inaugurated the camp in the presence of JRBA officials and trainees on Thursday.
The JRD Tata Sports Complex has a skating rink that will be utilised for the practice sessions.
Sahu, the secretary of JRBA, said elaborate preparations had been made for smooth conduct of the event. "Jamshedpur had earlier hosted the national camp for the South Asian Roll Ball Championship in 2013. Twelve men and as many women will represent India at the Asian meet. They have been selected on the basis of their performances in different tournaments held across the country."
As many as 16 countries will take part at the meet. "It's a big-ticket event and we are looking forward to a good show in Bangkok," added Sahu.
The Indian outfit will leave for Bangkok via Calcutta on November 21.
