Gora Ho's dream of holding a brand new recurve bow has finally come true.

The champion Indian round archer from Seraikela-Kharsawan has switched over to the recurve division, which will help him take part in international meets.

Gora bought the recurve bow with a government aid of Rs 2.70 lakh.

The 16-year-old archer started practising recurve archery three days back under the guidance of his mentor B. Srinivas Rao.

Currently Gora is shooting at a distance of 70m, a tough feat for sub-junior archers.

Sweating out in morning and evening sessions at government-run archery cradle in Dugni, near Seraikela, the shy and lanky tribal boy aims to excel in recurve bow soon.

'Achha lag raha hain. Kandhe mein thoda zor lagta hai par dheere dheere sab theek ho jayega (I feel good. I am experiencing a slight pressure on my shoulders, but slowly things will be fine),' Gora told The Telegraph over phone from Dugni.

After returning from Shillong a week back, Gora is currently staying at Dugni cradle. 'He is shooting with a recurve bow for the last three days and is doing pretty well,' mentor Rao said.

Rao, also the chief coach at Dugni cradle, added he had put his ward in the recurve archery category last year in the run-up to two induction trials at Tata Archery Academy and SAIL's Eklavya archery cradle in Kiriburu, West Singhbhum.

'But now he will permanently shoot with recurve bows and also compete in national competitions from November,' said Rao.

In 2015, Gora won 10 yellow metals at the 11th Jharkhand State Archery Championship in Jamshedpur. He is currently a sub-junior national champion and also became national champions in mini, sub-junior and junior categories last year.
