Jamshedpur, March 16: All is not lost for the 32 students of SDSM School for Excellence, who were barred from taking the plus-two examination due to non-affiliation of the school.

School authorities said the two-member team from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which inspected the school on March 4, has recommended the board to grant affiliation to the school and hold a special examination in July this year so that the students don’t lose an academic year.

School secretary N.K. Singh said the CBSE team was satisfied with the infrastructure in the school. “The team has recommended the board to hold the plus-two examination in July and publish the results by August 15,” he said.

The students — 27 in science and the rest in commerce — were enrolled at the school in 2002. They were barred because the school was not affiliated to the board. The plus-two examination started from March 1.

According to Singh, the inspection team has also recommended the board to clear the results of the Class X examination, which has been delayed for the last one year.

A writ petition, filed by parents of affected students, is pending with Jharkhand High Court.

School authorities alleged that the CBSE board had violated a high court order by not granting affiliation to the school despite the fact that the school completed the necessary formalities for getting an affiliation.

“Jharkhand High Court had directed the board to consider the application for affiliation for the plus-two level filed on March 6, 2002. But, the board had failed to respond to the order,” said Singh.

However, parents are apprehensive that even if the school gets affiliation now, their children may not be able to appear for the examination this year. Some have demanded that the management return the expenses incurred towards their children’s education at the school.
