The syndicate body of Ranchi University formally approved a finance officer for the institution on Friday.

The post had been vacant for more than a year after charges of gross financial irregularities committed by its earlier occupant surfaced.

Kaushal Kishore Verma, a senior manager with United Bank of India posted with Namkum branch, had been selected by Jharkhand Public Service Commission and recommended to the university for the finance officer’s post.

The post had fallen vacant after the university suspended former incumbent Sushil Kumar Prasad in June last year following complaints of his involvement in financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 1.8 crore.

This apart, the syndicate also formed a committee to look into the issue of pensions for 122 non-teaching staff of the varsity who had retired before or in 2007 and are yet to get pension under Fifth Pay Commission recommendations, implemented by the state government way back in 1996.

The Telegraph had highlighted the matter in a report dated September 7.

The committee will look into the complaints of the non-teaching staff and take up the matter with officials of state human resource (HRD) department.

“The case of the retired non-teaching staff has been sent to state HRD department three years ago. However, their pay has yet not been fixed. The committee will take up the matter with the officials and try to solve the problem as soon as possible,” said pro-vice chancellor V.P. Sharan.

The syndicate body of the university also formally approved a proposal of starting its own community radio.

Next, the university’s highest body approved a proposal of providing Rs 83,500 for construction of a toilet at Ranchi Women’s College.

This apart, the syndicate gave a go-ahead to PPK College, Bundu, to demolish the dilapidated physics block.
