Jamshedpur, Dec. 27: The tales of Luv and Kush will soon find readers in the Santhali language, thanks to the effort of tribal writer Digambar Hansda.
After authoring several textbooks in the Santhali language, the noted writer has now ventured into stories from the Ramayana and Panchatantra under the recommendation of the Jharkhand Education Project (JEP).
Now the Ramayana and the Panchatantra would be available in the Olchiki script for tribal students studying in primary schools across the state. The idea is to promote the Santhali language. The state government is all set to introduce these books in all the primary schools across the state.
“Characters like Luv and Kush make an impact on young minds. Nothing could be better than tribal children reading stories from the Ramayana in their mother tongue,” said Hansda.
The Jharkhand Tribal Welfare and Research Centre and the Santhali Sahitya Academy have played a crucial role in procuring information about the mythological characters. The books would not be up for sale. Its copies would only be available for primary school students of Class I to Class III.
“I began writing the book in June and completed it by October. It is for the first time that I have written a book for children. Earlier, I have written books for senior school and college students. It was a challenge to make the book interesting and readable for primary school students,” said Hansda.
