Jamshedpur, Oct. 11: A deputy station superintendent (DSS) of Tatanagar railway station was detained today for allegedly sexually exploiting a train ticket examiner (TTE) with the promise to marry her.
He would be arrested under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, for rape, if he refuses to marry the victim. The TTE, who is posted at Jharsugora, had lodged an FIR with Parsudih police station against DSS Subrato Ghosh on Saturday.
She alleged that Ghosh befriended her three years ago and started exploiting her on the promise that he would marry her. When she insisted, the accused denied making any such promise.
Sub-inspector Vinod Kumar said the police had tried to persuade the accused to marry the girl. “But for marrying, they must have mutual understanding, which was not there in this case. As the victim is adamant on her stand, we are left with no option but to arrest the DSS,” said Kumar.
The police said, there were serious quarrels between the two for six months and they had created scenes in their respective workplaces. Railway sources said both of them were to be blamed equally.
