Jamshedpur, Sept. 8: All hopes of revival of the BV Parikh Janata College have been snuffed out with most of the teachers opting for transfer to other constituent colleges.
Following a recommendation from the Ranchi University syndicate, the state human resource development department had issued an order for the closure of the college in December last year.
The syndicate had made the recommendation on the basis of an enquiry conducted by a three-member team which found several anomalies in the functioning of the college including low attendance and irregular classes.
According to sources at the extention counter of Ranchi University, six out of the 12 teachers posted at the college have opted for a transfer to some other college. This seals the fate of the college and about 700 students enrolled in various faculties of the institution.
A senior faculty member of the college said the human resource development ministry had decided to review its decision over the closure issue after the intervention of chief minister Arjun Munda following pressure from various students? organisations.
?State human resource development minister Pashupati Nath Singh was also in favour of revival of the college. He had assured us that the he would accept the decision of the university syndicate if it decided to keep the college open,? he said.
However, the decision taken by a cross-section of teachers opting for transfer just a couple of days before the meeting of the university syndicate has ruled out any such possibility, said another teacher. The syndicate meeting is scheduled to be held at Ranchi on September 11.
Teachers of the college said the university authorities were against the revival of the college due to poor enrolment of students and irregular classes. ?Although the register shows over 700 students enrolled, less than 20 student attended class on any given day,? they said. Now that the teachers have also opted for transfer, the university authorities will put forth their argument before the government more strongly, the teachers said.
Local co-ordinator of Ranchi University Shukla Mohanty confirmed she has received applications of transfer from six teachers BV Parikh Janata College.
?They have named of 10 colleges, in order of preference, where they want themselves to be transferred.?
