Jamshedpur: Domestic power supply was disrupted in several areas serviced by Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) on Thursday owing to supply restrictions and maintenance and repair work.

Jugsalai and Govindpur, where residents complained of prolonged loadsheddings since morning, were the worst hit.

Station Road, Girls School Road, D'Costa Road, Gudri market area and several other places in Jugsalai reeled under power crisis since 11am.

JBVNL officials said supply was affected in Jugsalai and Govindpur for several hours due to maintenance work and the disruption caused in power lines by branches of trees.

"We had to cut down of the tree branches that were interrupting power supply," an official at JBVNL's Karandih office said.

JBVNL officials blamed the electricity crisis in Mango and Adityapur on supply restrictions from the central load despatch to the two major grid substations at Golmuri and Gamharia.

The Golmuri substation on Thursday received around 30MW against the normal supply of 45MW while Gamharia got 90MW against 120MW.

"There was no local fault that disrupted power supply in Mango and Adityapur. The crisis was due to inadequate power supply from the central load despatch," a junior engineer of JBVNL C.S. Singh said.

The shortfall in supply from the central load despatch prompted JBVNL to clamp blackouts in its command areas and Mango and Adityapur in regular intervals.

"The power supply is very erratic today. We are not even getting one hour of steady supply," said Anil Sinha, a resident of Post Office Road in Mango.

The power crisis also resulted in water scarcity in Mango, Jugsalai and Govindpur where the residents were unable to operate submersible pumps.

"We had to fetch water from other places served by Jusco," said Sukumar Sen, a resident of Ghorabandha where electricity is supplied through the Govindpur substation.
