Ranchi, Nov. 9: The state government is planning to set up a 3000-MW greenfield thermal project in Patratu and has invited expressions of interests (EoI) from private parties.

According to a plan chalked out by the department of energy, the new plant, to be set up at a 5574.75-acre site alongside the Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS), will have six power-generation units of 500 MWs each.

The move to set up the greenfield project comes after the state government invited some major business houses, such as Tata Power, to pump in funds to revive the ailing PTPS, but a reply from them is awaited.

According to sources in the department of energy, private parties interested in setting up the greenfield project in Patratu can submit their EoI to the department of industries by January 20, 2006.

Incidentally, all efforts in the past to revive the ailing PTPS have failed. The power station, installed with a capacity of 840 MWs, currently produces an average of 100 MWs.

Former Jharkhand State Electricity Board chairmen repeatedly announced plans to revive the ailing power plant, but the desired results could not be achieved.
