Ranchi, May 12: The mines and geology department has found a 3.20 crore cubic meter block of “high quality” granite in Ferenda Tola of Koderma district.
The colour of the granite is pink and geologically it is classified as “I-type granite”.
The granite, which comes under the category of minor mineral, was explored on May 9 after a visit of geologist in the area. The team had been to cross-check the survey report given by the Geological Survey of India on the geological structure of the area. Pink granite is used in making high-end tiles.
Geology director Sukumar Das Gupta said: “The quality of the newly-explored mineral is equivalent to the quality of world class granite found in Jhansi and Bundelkhand. It is of great economic value.”
“Only 20 per cent of the granite is used in the production of tile. The remaining 80 per cent of the granite is used in chips production. The state will be able to earn about Rs 7,680 crore and Rs 483.84 crore cash respectively from the production,” he added.
Das Gupta said: “Presence of pink granite indicates availability of gold in the area. Our department will be able to find gold reserve in the Koderma area and the area can not only known for mica mining but gold mining as well.”
