Jamshedpur, Nov. 13: For the 25-member team from Presidency College, Calcutta, the trip to Ghatshila is a chance to be in the lap of nature.
Away from the hustle bustle of city life, the students have retreated to Galudih in Ghatshila to study the Earth’s crust. But the excursion would not be restricted to rock mapping only, they also want to explore the tourist hotspot.
With compass and paper in hand, the geology honours students were seen studying the topography carefully. They scaled the earth using measuring tape and consulted the teachers with their findings.
The students said they want to finish their research soon so that they can take a look at the scenic spots here and enjoy nature’s bounty.
“On this excursion trip we would learn how to map the crust. We came down to Galudih on November 11 and started with rock mapping. The rocky terrain would provide us exciting opportunity to know the earth better,” said one of the students.
Another said: “I was excited when I came to know that we will be going over to Ghatshila for the excursion. As we all live in city we cannot enjoy nature well, this is our chance to come closer to the flora and fauna of this area.”
Amit Kumar Ray, one of the two teachers who are accompanying the excursion team, said Galudih is the ideal place to study geology. “Ghatshila is rocky and also has a dense forest cover. These factors make the place an excellent site to conduct such geological study,” said Ray.
