Jamshedpur, Dec. 18: Eight jawans today pedalled their way into the city to bridge the gap between army and civilians.

Clad in army uniform and riding bicycles, the team from the Bihar Regimental Centre (Danapur) entered the city this afternoon. The jawans mingled freely with their counterparts at the local army cantonment near the Circuit House.

Major General A.K. Singh flagged off the team from Ranchi Cantonment on December 17.

Covering 800km from Patna to reach the steel city, the team spoke about the need to bridge the gap between army personnel and civilians.

Junior Commissioner Officer Sunil Kumar said the effort of the jawans will help in making a big difference as far as bridging the gap between army personnel and civilians are concerned.

Kumar said majority of civilians consider the army jawans and officers to be different from the rest of the society. “We want to come closer to the civilian life so that we can connect with them in a better way. Venturing out on a bicycle was an excellent idea,” he said.

Kumar said that during this journey the team would like to interact with the people of the younger generation so that the latter may have a clearer conception about the Indian Army.

Although the crux of the entire effort is to develop a rapport with the common man, the team will also engage themselves in a number of things, like collecting historical data from various places, area familiarisation and motivate the youths to join the armed forces.

Besides, the team will have acquaintance with recruiting areas of Bihar Regimental Centre, Danapur, and select young boys for Boys Sports Coy of Bihar Regimental Centre, Danapur.

The jawans proceeded to Cuttack, which will be their final decision after Station Commander, Colonel Joginder Singh flagged them off from the army cantonment in Jamshedpur.
