Bokaro, March 3: Right click, Bokaro students.

Recent results of the National Cyber Olympiad 2010 have shown that the city’s youngsters are up among the country’s best when it comes to being computer-savvy.

Of the 5,000 schoolchildren in Jharkhand who had taken the prestigious test, only 200 could get through, while 175 were placed in India’s top 500 in their respective classes. Among those, 98 were from Bokaro.

Now for the icing on the cake.

Among India’s top 10 in every class from II to XII, eight are from Jharkhand, and of them, five are from Bokaro schools, including India topper Shreyash Raj, who answered all 30 questions fired at him correctly in 13.2 minutes.

Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro, has three such champions, while Chinmaya School and St Xavier’s have one each.

National Cyber Olympiad (Jharkhand) convener Ajit Kumar Verma said: “DPS, Bokaro, has topped among all schools of the country.”

Apart from nine-year-old Shreyash of Class II (code: J009209602), other DPS sparks are Deepesh Kumar of Class VI, at an all-India second slot, and Ashish Harshvardhan of Class IV, ranked eighth.

Sagar Suman, Class VIII student of St Xavier’s, Bokaro, and Class IX student Saurabh Kumar of Chinmaya both got all-India ninth in their classes.

Shreyash, the son of senior executive of Bokaro steel plant S. Kumar, said: “I want to be a scientist for India.” Not surprisingly, “math is my favourite subject,” he said. But this numbers buff is also an Akshay Kumar fan.

Ashish, who came eighth now, stood all-India second in the National Science Talent Scholarship exam two years ago. The son of schoolteacher B.P. Singh, he wants to be an IAS officer. “Credit for my feat goes to my teachers and school,” he said.

Deepesh, son of banker D.K. Giri, was also thrilled with his all-India second rank. But the computer whiz also wants to be an IAS officer.

Honorary principal, DPS, Bokaro, Hemlata S. Mohan was all smiles. “I extend my warm congratulations to all students of Jharkhand who have performed well. These results have conclusively proved that Bokaro is one of India’s best schooling hubs,” she said.

Besides Bokaro’s famous five, the state’s other India top-10 toppers are Aditya Sharma (Class VII, St Anthony School, Ranchi) at third, N. Shalini Sriniwas (Class VIII, Carmel Junior College, Jamshedpur), at sixth and Shubham Kumaran (Class VIII, St Francis School, Deoghar), at 10th.
