Ranchi, May 15: There is only one language in which music speaks and its appeal is universal. Samit Das, a music composer born and brought up in Ranchi and making a Bengali album, is banking on just that.
Samit Das?s Bengali album, titled ?Nissang Cheel?, stands out in a music market, which is dominated by Nagpuri and Hindi songs. The album, which is scheduled to hit the stands in a few days, comprises songs that have been composed by Das himself.
The lyrics have been penned by Dinabandhu Karmakar, from West Bengal.
Das harps on the role of the lyricists, musicians and other members in bringing out the album. In fact, he along with his team members have composed many tunes for programmes in Doordarshan.
Das, an R.D. Burman and Laxmikant-Pyarelal fanatic, promises that the songs in his album would be different. Rhythmic, with a blend of classical music, the songs would be close to the people?s hearts.
The themes of the songs derive inspiration from day-to-day ordeals of human life. ?There is a song in the album about the depletion of resources on earth. Another is about the incident in Tamil Nadu where school students were lapped up in a fire while the teachers escaped unhurt,? said Das, who started out in his childhood through guitar lessons from his father.
Das is confident that with a large number of Bengalees in the state, Bengali music holds a shining prospect.
At present, Das has his hands full. He is working on a Hindi album and has plans aplenty for the future. ?I want to experiment with baul songs and work on fusion styles, of baul and Hindi songs,? he revealed.
