Ranchi, Dec. 24: Hordes of people have a tough time every day negotiating the narrow road near Kadru diversion. Traffic jam and congestion has become a common sight on the road.

Originally 7 metres wide, the diversion has been reduced to a 4-metre lane after flyover construction work began in November 2003.

A pier of the flyover has encroached 3 metres of the road. Vehicles struggle to squeeze through the narrow road on the diversion causing traffic congestion in the area.

Even pedestrians have a harrying time trying to cross the road. Only holiday see a relatively thinner traffic otherwise it?s a overcrowded road most of the time.

The residents of Kadru, Ashok Nagar, Argora, Hamru Housing Colony, A.G. Cooperative Colony, Ashok Bihar and Pundag regularly use the diversion while going to the Main Road. Over 1 lakh people reside in the area.

The diversion is the only point which gives an easy access to local railway station and bus stand.

Considering the problems, the residents want an alternate route till the construction of the flyover.

They met the district administration several times for a solution to the problem but the administration could not help them till date. The administration instead paying any attention to the complaint has increased problem by diverting all the auto-rickshaws, originating from Hatia and Dhurwa, through the Kadru diversion.

The Simplex Project Limited, which is supervising construction work of the flyover, seems to be least bothered about the problem. A company official, R.B. Choudhary, said there was no way out.

?Residents will have the problem till the end of 2005. There is no way out. There is no scope of making any temporary by-pass road in the area,? he added.

Executive engineer of Ranchi Road division J.P. Sahu was not available for comment. His office staff washed its hands of the matter saying they are not responsible.

?Our work will begin when the flyover will be completed. South-Eastern Railway has to complete the construction work, which in turn has assigned the work to Konkan Railway, and is taking the help of a Calcutta based company Simplex Project Limited,? an employee added.
