Jamshedpur, June 26: Superintendent of police today appointed chief of special task force Abhay Narayan Singh officer in-charge of Bistupur to curb the rising incidence of kidnapping and looting in the city.

Singh replaces Ekram Alam. “The law and order situation in Bistupur has deteriorated. Alam was unable to control the situation. I had to replace him with Singh,” he said. Soon after assuming officer, Singh registered a case on the basis of an FIR lodged by Raghupati Prasad, who was recently abducted and subsequently released. He was also robbed of Rs 48,000.

Sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar has been appointed investigating officer. in the case.

The victim Raghupati Prasad, a resident of Majhitola in Adityapur, is still in trauma for being thrashed by the looters followed by subsequent humiliation by the Bistupur police when he went to lodge an FIR.

“I had to take the help from the media after the police thwarted me away from the police station. Now I came to know that the Bistupur police have registered the case after the news figured in some local dailies,” Prasad said.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Prasad said he suspected the involvement of an auto-rickshaw driver in the loot as the miscreants had picked him up on a bike while he was negotiating with the auto-rickshaw driver.

“I think the auto-rickshaw driver was involved with the miscreants. The incident occurred so fast that I could not scream for help,” he said.

The duo took Prasad to an isolated place in Jubilee Park on their bike and hit him hard. Prasad lost consciousness and the miscreants fled with Rs 48,000 and his other valuables.

When contacted, the investigating officer said they were verifying all auto-rickshaw drivers with the name ‘Munna’. The IO, Pradeep Kumar said: “We have learnt that an auto-rickshaw driver, Munna, was involved in the affair. Once the culprit is nabbed the case would be solved.”

Meanwhile, the superintendent of police Arun Kumar Oraon said he replaced the Bistupur officer-in-charge as he failed to control the situation.
