The excitement surrounding the release of Spiderman2 is unprecedented |
Spiderman is back though he hasn’t made it to the capital yet. But the movie buffs here can’t wait to see him take on the evil Doctor Octopus in his second screen avatar in Spiderman-2.
Two years after Peter Parker’s transformation from a boy-next-door to prolific crime-buster enthralled audiences across the globe the buzz surrounding his second coming is tremendous.
Youngsters have been calling up theatre owners to enquire about the date of release. The Hindi version of the film will hit cinemas here by the second week of August.
An employee at the Sandhya Cinema said, “Last week, around eight to 10 people called up, asking about Spiderman-2’s release. The film has been released in India. Clearly, there is a lot of excitement around it. In fact, the last time we saw such a craze was when The Matrix released.”
The movie will be screened in Sujata and Uphaar cinemas, said an employee of Uphaar. “We are sure it will do big business. The last Spiderman film was a huge hit here. He may be a comic hero, but he attracts everyone be they kids or adults,” the employee said.
Anurag Kislay, a student of the St. Xavier’s college said, “All of us are waiting for Spiderman-2.” What has upped interest levels are the slick series of promos doing the round on television channels. The film promises to unveil many secrets and change the destiny of the hero himself.
“From what we have heard, the hero’s identity will be disclosed. I can’t wait to see what happens when Harry Osborn discovers Peter’s identity? Will he avenge his father’s death and kill his best friend?” said Shweta, another college student.
Teenagers are also agog about the whiff of romance between Mary Jane Watson and Peter.
Kamlesh, a student of Xavier Institute of Social Service, was among the minority interested in the bad guy. “The character of Doc Ock is the one to watch out for. We have been reading about him since we were kids. I also hear that Spiderman loses his powers in the film. What happens then? I can’t wait for August to come.”
The kids, on the other hand, simply want to watch Spiderman’s gymnastic feats. Shantanu Shaswat, a student of DAV Shyamali, said, “Spiderman is just amazing. I have been dying for a Spiderman costume and now I am going to get it. In fact, I will watch the film with my family wearing it.”
