Jamshedpur, Feb. 26: About 30 delegates from Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh took part in a three-day national workshop, “Tribal women’s right over land livelihood resources” at the Jan Vikash Kendra in Sundarnagar.

The workshop is being jointly organised by Consult for Women and Land Rights, Sathi All for Partnership and Gender and Livelihoods and Resource Forum (GLRF) and is being supported by the ministry of tribal affairs, Government of India.

The inaugural day threw up ideas about how a mass mobilisation campaign needed to be launched to exert pressure on the government to amend the customary law of tribals and to give indigenous woman land rights.

“Over the years it has been noticed that tribal women, particularly those unmarried or widows without male children, are the worst sufferers of displacement,” said Rose Kerketta of the GLRF.

Coordinator of the workshop Praveer Peter said that in the next two days the delegates will discuss on issues like understanding different tribal systems and tenancy laws.
