Jamshedpur, Jan. 5: A 45-year-old man’s hopes of making it to the altar for the fourth time were dashed today when his third wife landed up at the wedding venue and spilled the beans.

Police have detained the family members of Md Javed alias Javed Hussain, who wanted to marry again on the sly, duping his present and third wife, Shaheen Parveen. The incident occurred at Azadnagar in Mango. However, taking advantage of the pandemonium at the wedding venue, Md Javed fled from the spot.

A resident of Barish Colony in Azadnagar, Javed set his eyes on a girl from Ramgarh. The bride’s family members, arrived in the city for the wedding and put up at a lodge on Road No. 12 in Azadnagar where the marriage was supposed to be solemnised in the wee hours.

However, just before the ceremony was to begin, Shaheen appeared at the scene and told the people present that Javed was already married to her and this was the fourth time that he was tying the knot. She added that Javed was yet to divorce her. Shaheen said her husband had already driven two other wives out of his house and wanted to oust her too from his life.

In the commotion, Javed escaped from the scene.

Soon afterwards, infuriated family members of the bride started searching for the bridegroom but could not find him. The kin of the bride’s family rounded up the family members of Javed and locked them in a room before informing the police.

The police immediately swung into action, and rounded up the family members of the accused. “We never thought that Javed and his family would do something like this. We didn’t even know that the groom was already married. Had his former wife not landed up and revealed the truth, then my cousin would have become another victim,” said Arsad Ali, a kin of the bride.

Officer in charge of Azadnagar police station Ghulam Rasool Khan said they had received a written complaint from Shaheen.

“We have information that Javed who earned a living by doing petty work has more than one place to live. He has a home somewhere in Sakchi and in Baris Colony. We will investigate and punish the culprit,” said the OC.

Shaheen, who stays at Azadnagar, said she knew what her husband was up to. “After knowing about his plan to marry again, I wanted to meet the bride’s family and tell them the truth. My husband should be punished for remarrying without giving me a divorce,” Shaheen told reporters.
