Bokaro/Giridih, May 9: On a day of heightened Naxalite activity in neighbouring Orissa, Maoists left posters at a railway station in Giridih, warning Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and P. Chidambaram for launching Operation Greenhunt while Gomia MLA Madhowlal Singh received a threat letter from them yesterday evening.

The posters — about seven to eight of them — were spotted at Parasnath railway station, which always remains crowded with tourists and pilgrims. However, the railway authorities and local police removed them within a few hours to prevent panic from spreading in the area.

One of the posters read: “Samrajwad ke dalal, Sonia, Manmohan, P. Chidambaram. Fasiwad gut hosiyar, krantikari janta hai taiyaar (Sonia, Manmohan and P. Chidambaram are brokers of capitalism. Fascist group beware, the revolutionary public is ready).”

Another said: “Operation Greenhunt chalane ka sargana Sonia, Manmohan, P. Chidambaram, J. P. Pillai ko bharat ki dharti se maar bhagao (Chase away Sonia, Manmohan, P. Chidambaram, J.P. Pillai for executing Operation Greenhunt).” The local Congress leaders were not spared either. “Giraftar, hatya huyi to sabhi neta, mantri par bhi jan karwayi chalegi (If any Maoist is killed or arrested, mass action will taken against leaders and ministers),” one of the posters said.

However, Giridih police pleaded ignorance when asked about the warning to national leaders. Superintendent of police A.V. Homkar said: “I have not received any information from my officers.”

Meanwhile, in the letter addressed to Madhowlal Singh, the Maoists declared death penalty for him for supporting Greenhunt. The missive was signed by one Rakeshji and was also sent to local media offices. The Maoists threatened that all Congress MLAs of the state will be killed one by one for coming in their way.

Singh — who had been earlier elected to the Naxalite-affected Gomia Assembly constituency four times — said he was not afraid of death.

The MLA, however, suspected that it might have been the work of his rivals.

Taking no chances, Bokaro SP Saket Singh has tightened Singh’s security.
