Jamshedpur, Aug. 1: A state-of-the-art surgical ward for male patients was inaugurated at Tata Motors Hospital here today.

Set up at a cost of Rs 55 lakh, the 55-bed ward was inaugurated by Tata Motors vice-president (commercial vehicles) S.B. Borwankar in the presence of senior doctors and other medical staff.

Tata Motors Hospital general manager (medical services) V.P. Singh said that the new ward would enable faster recovery of patients after surgery.

“The ward is centrally air-conditioned and will ensure minimum post-operative infections,” Singh told The Telegraph.

According to him, the ward has anti-skid flooring and is stain-resistant.

“Much care has been taken to develop the surgical ward, which will provide a comfortable environment for patients, doctors and nurses in terms of temperature, humidity, hygiene, acoustics and specialised illumination,” he added.

The auto giant’s plant head P.K. Chobe said the new facility was a step ahead in quality healthcare. “The new ward will maintain the highest hygiene and safety standards,” he said.

The ward has in place the latest equipment as well as infrastructure for surgical and post-operative care.

Sources specially mentioned the ergonomically cutting-edge Fowler Beds, which operate on the crank mechanism with screws to adjust according to the patient’s requirement or comfort.

Tata Motors Hospital has been continuously upgrading its healthcare facilities.

Last year, an infertility hub was opened at the hospital, which is the first-of-its-kind clinic in the region. It offers intra-uterine insemination for infertile couples. The hospital plans to upgrade it into a full-fledged in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinic. Children born with the help of IVF treatment are commonly known as test tube babies.

“We want to come up with more cutting-edge facilities so that people in and around the city can benefit,” said a senior doctor.
