School students of the steel city, who are into robots and want to make one at home, can look forward to August-end.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) will organise a workshop titled, Make My Robo, for students of Class VIII, tentatively scheduled for August 28 and 29, where they will learn to make robots at an affordable cost.

Schools can send two students to the workshop. Each student will have to pay Rs 800 for a science kit, which will be provided at the workshop.

Principal scientist of CSIR-NML and convenor of the workshop Mita Tarafder said although invitations had been sent to over 30 schools in Jamshedpur, there was room for only 15 to participate on a first-come, first-served basis.

"This is for the first time that NML has organised a workshop like this for school students. It will make robotics more interesting. Students will learn about affordable robotics and can easily make them at home without spending much," said Tarafder.

Scientists of NML, that also holds a workshop for engineering students titled, Behind the Teacher's Desk, will address the robotics workshop along with officials from Tata Steel's R&D department.

Concepts pertaining to electricity and magnetism and e-waste management will also be discussed at the workshop.
