Jamshedpur, July 3: Suman Mahto, widow of slain MP Sunil Mahto, is now ready to face the electoral politics “to complete the unfinished works” of her husband.
Two days after her appointment as the JMM national general secretary, Mahto faced the media for a tête-à-tête today. Answering a volley of questions from journalists for the first time she looked quite confident and did not seem to face much difficulty.
She answered various questions, ranging from CBI investigations to her husband’s murder to tackling extremism, without many hiccups.
“I have been assured by the party chief, Shibu Soren, of a ticket for the Jamshedpur by-elections,” she said, putting rest to all the speculations about the JMM candidate.
Sources said, the moment the party leadership appo- inted her as the national general secretary, it became clear that she would be given the ticket for the by-elections, likely to be held in the next two-three months.
Asked about her priorities, Mahto said she would like to complete the unfinished works of her late husband.
“The city is facing acute drinking water crisis. Then there are problems with hawkers near the railway station. I will facilitate work on Mango and Jugsalai drinking water projects. Moreover, I will also take up other issues of public concern,” Mahto said.
Mahto said she was not satisfied with the pace of the CBI enquiry into the murder of her husband. She said the enquiry was being conducted at a snail’s pace. She had also approached chief minister Madhu Koda to accelerate the investigations.
“If my grievance is not addressed at the state level I will approach the Lok Sabha Speaker,” she said.
According to Mahto, extremism was indeed a serious problem in Jharkhand and the government should invite the extremists to the negotiating table in order to curb this evil.
