Ranchi, Dec. 8: The Radhakrishna Award came as a pleasant surprise for this year’s recipient, Rama Singh.
Singh is the twenty-second recipient of the award which was instituted by Ranchi Express group in 1980.
She was given a certificate of honour and cash prize of Rs 11,000. Hindi writer Shravan Kumar Goswami was the first recipient of the award, which honours and recognises creations in Hindi literature from this region. Singh has been honoured for her complete works.
When asked which of her eight works she considers the best, she said: “It is difficult to single out any one as my best.”
Of her four novels, she said, Gulabchhadi has a special significance for her, as she has been successful in portraying her feelings through it.
“I have always envisaged a complete hero who is yet to be born. A symbol for metamorphosis in a chaotic world, my hero will have a ready solution for each of the problems that are responsible for the degradation of the society,” she said.
Singh finds the parallel of her “complete” hero in Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Chhatrapati Shivaji and Maharana Pratap” who have made significant contributions to the contemporary society.
Speaking of Singh’s literary style, writer Shravan Kumar Goswami said: “She has been successful in portraying different aspects of both rural and urban lifestyles. This was vividly expressed by her in Gulabchhadi.”
