Jamshedpur, Nov. 25: Winter has brought with it some good news for tipplers.

Prices of country-made foreign liquor have come down in the shops with the licence holder Gajananda Impex Private Limited, bringing the prices on a par with other parts of the state.

“We received the licence for running the liquor shops in the district on November 10. We have now decided to rationalise the prices of all the brands of liquor. The prices of most of the brands would come down by 5-10 per cent,” said an official of Calcutta-based Gajanada Impex Private Limited.

He said the move would have a negative impact on a couple of brands, which will now cost dearer in the steel city markets. The prices of beers will be scaled down.

Beer, earlier used to cost Rs 70-80 per bottle now it will available for Rs 65-75 per bottle. Brands of whisky, vodka, rum and brandy have also become cheaper by 5-10 per cent. According to the new price, VAT 69, Black & White and Teachers Highland have recorded a steep fall. While price of VAT 69 (750ml) bottle has been scaled down by Rs 200, the Black & White (750ml) and Teachers Highland (750ml) has become cheaper by Rs 100 and Rs 150, respectively.

Price of Signature (750ml) has recorded an increase of Rs 20. Officials of Gajananda Impex Private Limited maintained that the rationalisation of prices would be beneficial for the customers of the city.

“Earlier, liquor was cheaper in other part of the state compared to the steel city. We are hopeful that the decrease in prices would help in increasing the volume of sale in the district,” said an official.

He added they have bagged the tender for supplying liquor in the district for a cost of Rs 3.5 crore per month.
