Playhouse Gallery on GEL Complex, Ranchi Main Road, has put the capital on the world’s LEGO map. LEGO construction sets, popularly known as blocks, are manufactured in Denmark and marketed in India by Funskool India Limited. Basically interlocking toy bricks, they are a global phenomenon since 1949. Over the decades, LEGO has launched themes starting from vehicle, town and city designs to those based on film franchisees such as Star Wars, Spiderman, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. Since 1998, its robotic line of toys, the Mindstorm range, has been hugely successful. Global leader LEGO also hosted a workshop for children at Playhouse Gallery, which happens to be Ranchi’s only exclusive toyshop. The capital store, which is celebrating its sil ver jubilee this year, also stocks leading toy brands such as Mattel, Chota Bheem, Fisher Price and others

Top-notch industrial test

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently recognised Ranchi-based Sun-Tech Laboratory, which tests building and road materials, ores and minerals, environmental norms and food products. Over the next three years, BIS will use testing facilities at Sun-Tech to decide which industrial products deserve the ISI tag. “We are happy with the honour. National accreditation board for testing and calibration laboratories, under the Union government, also accredited us in 2008 for chemical and mechanical testing,” said laboratory director Pranay Kumar
