Ranchi, Feb. 2: The Jharkhand Judicial Academy would soon introduce specialised capsule courses for government officials.

The courses will also help judicial officials and Assembly legislators, said Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice V.K. Gupta at a function held to celebrate the academy’s first anniversary in Ranchi today.

“There should be interaction between the three pillars of a democracy. Learning is a continuous process and there is no end to it,” he said.

He said government officials often have to deal with matters which have legal aspects to it. Issues related to arbitration and compensation could be more easily managed if the officials have knowledge of law, he said.

The academy was formed on January 12, 2002 with the purpose of training newly-appointed judicial officials as well as those already in the service. It has conducted 13 courses till date and trained about 80 per cent of the new recruits. It has also held special sessions where distinguished speakers from high courts and Bar associations in the country have delivered lectures on legal issues.

Justice R.S. Babu of the Supreme Court released a souvenir on the occasion. He said the academy is a modest attempt to train judicial officials in the lower rung of the state judiciary. “Judicial officers should imbibe the values of the profession. They should know the latest developments in the legal world for better judgement. Scientific developments and medical jurisprudence should be an essential part of the curriculum,” he said.
