Dhanbad, Sept. 29: Citu national vice president S.K. Bakshi today led an all-party delegation to meet Dhanbad deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal to protest against the alleged apathetic attitude of the BCCL authorities towards the family of contract labourer Rohan Mahto who was killed in an accident while working last week.

The delegation, which included state president of the Janata Dal (U) Jaleshwar Mahto, former BJP Sindri legislator Raj Kishore Mahto and Mantu Mahto of JD (U) demanded the intervention of the deputy commissioner to ease the tense situation prevalent in the district.

At a news meet, Bakshi said there is no justification of BCCL denying a job to the dependants of Mahto on the grounds that he was a contract labourer as the company has earlier provided jobs to dependants of contract labourers who were killed in accidents.

Bakshi added that they would tone down their agitation for a couple of the days because of the Allahabad high court’s judgement on Ayodhya on Friday, but would raise the issue again as the people are unhappy with the company management.

The DC assured the delegation that he would speak to BCCL in this regard.

but added that the issue was not within his jurisdiction and a final decision would be taken by the CMD of BCCL alone.
