Odisha police on Wednesday arrested the boyfriend of the murdered 19-year-old college girl in Birsanagar whose body was found in the neighbouring state last year in September but went unidentified till Tuesday.
Mithilesh Kumar (28) of Telco allegedly murdered his girlfriend Komal Mishra of Birsanagar, a student of BCom Part II in Jamshedpur Women's College, as she wanted to become an actress and had joined an acting school. In this, he was allegedly helped by his friend Paramjeet Prasad (24) of Govindpur.
Paramjeet has also been arrested.
They have been charged with Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC for murder and attempt to hide evidence on the basis of an FIR lodged by Komal's father Sudarshan Mishra, a resident of Prakasnagar in Birsanagar.
The Komal murder has an uncanny resemblance to the infamous Sheena Bora case hogging national television since a week.
Komal was suffocated to death by Mithilesh in a moving car with his friend Paramjeet at the wheel on July 30, 2014. The girl was buried at a jungle in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, in Tiring police station area.
Though the girl's father lodged a missing diary on July 31, 2014, the case surfaced only last week, when a fight among Mithilesh's friends, who knew about the murder, led to one of them spilling the beans to the girl's parents.
Mithilesh's estranged friend Amar Kumar told Komal's horrified father Sudarshan that her boyfriend had killed her over a year ago.
Then, the father rushed to Odisha and got the case rolling. He identified the girl's bracelets, sandals and other personal items by her father at Tiring police station on Tuesday, Birsanagar officer-in-charge Bir Singh Munda said.
Once Komal was identified, Odisha police rushed to Jamshedpur and nabbed Mithilesh, Paramjeet and Amar and took them back for interrogation.
Tiring police station circle inspector Sharat Chandra Ray said Amar was released while the arrested duo had confessed to the crime.
"Komal had joined acting classes much to the objection of Mithilesh. On July 30, 2014, Mithilesh planned a trip to Tiring with Komal and his friend Paramjeet, where he again told Komal to drop her acting class. When she said no, he slapped her and she slapped him back. Then, a humiliated Mithilesh gagged Komal to death, pressing her nose and mouth." said Ray who is looking into the case.
Realising she was dead in the car on the Jharkhand-Odisha border, the friends dumped the body at the Tiring jungle in Odisha, 40km from Birsanagar. The body was recovered on September 1, 2014.
Bereaved father Sudarshan said he was still shocked that his daughter met with such a gruesome end. "I want to see the duo, especially Mithilesh, convicted," he said.
