Ranchi, Jan. 5: It was a day of great clothes and an ugly spat at Morabadi grounds today.
A khadi fashion show with Mumbai and local models was organised to make state’s youth realise that when it comes to style, khadi has a lot of oomph to offer. The show was a success.
The mela ground was abuzz with people much before the scheduled time of the show. Called the Rashtriya Khadi Paridhan Utsav, the show was a celebration of khadi weaves and cuts. And there were illustrious guests to grace the occasion — chief minister Madhu Koda, Subodh Kant Sahay, and deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto.
Abhishek, a student of IIFT, Ranchi, had designed most of the perfectly silhouetted dresses made from the different variants of Khadi — silk and woollen.
Chief executive officer of the Jharkhand Khadi and Village Industries Board Prem Kumar Choudhry said: “The young can look good, if not better, in khadi. Khadi’s not for the elderly or politicians alone, and this show goes on to prove that.”
Meanwhile, a stall dealing in embroidery items was closed down today evening following complaints against its owner for misbehaving with a “VIP” customer.
Jharkhand Khadi Board’s chief Jainandu said the New Delhi stall was closed following a complaint from the VIP buyer, who said the owner had asked money regarding an item that she had already paid for.
“She was a VIP customer and we cannot tolerate misbehaviour with any customer, let alone a VIP one,” Jainandu added.
